Her middle-aged granddaughter’s comments 100 years later:
Since Grandma didn’t write anything a hundred years ago today, I’m sharing an advertisement for the Clipper Lawn Mower.
I have lots of crab grass and dandelions in my yard—and I haven’t been able to successfully get rid of them. I definitely need a Clipper. . . wonder where I can find one.
That sounds like a miracle machine!
Advertisers, both then and know, know how to make products sound like they can accomplish miraculous things. 🙂
Isn’t it a rototiller? 🙂
hmmm. . . I’m not sure.
That looks like it would take some muscle.
We drive by Dixon, IL on our way to and from the Chicago area. A sign there notes it as the boyhood home of Ronald Reagan. Abe Lincoln joined the militia there during the Black Hawk war.

It’s interesting that two presidents had connections to the same small Illinois town.
The clipper just cuts them off at the knees, so to speak, it would get rid of them, I think anyway…. 🙂

. . . at least temporarily. 🙂
Grandma is busy living life to the fullest, I’m thinking and Sheryl you do not miss a step. Bravo!
I’m thinking the same thing. She had a really good summer–and I’m guessing that she’s equally enjoying her Fall.
What a great contraption!
. . . at least if you believe the advertisement. 🙂
I’d say they had more truth in them than the ones of today?
We have received so much rain here in the Midwest lately that we are having to mow more often than not this time of year. Usually it is hot and dry and the grass has stopped growing and has turned brown but not this year.
It’s been a really wet summer here, too.
Wow, that looks like something to hook up to the tractor 😀
I can’t figure out exactly how it operated. It is a strange-looking contraption.
I remember the old push lawn mowers!
I can’t remember my family actually using a push mower to mow the lawn–but I can remember playing with an old one and cutting a little grass with it.
Grandma has been taking a break for a few days. Maybe she’s been mowing lawns! LOL!
🙂
I could sure use one of those Clippers now!
So could I. . . somehow our riding mower just can’t get rid of the crab grass and dandelions like the Clipper. 🙂
You’ll have to google The Clipper 🙂
I’m not sure if I came up with the same thing you did. Did you find a Tasmanian newspaper from the early 20th century called The Clipper? I also see that there is still a lawn mower with a similar name (Country Clipper).
Grandma’s been a bit quiet lately. It makes me wonder what was on her mind. Busy, or pensive?
I’ve also been wondering about what she was thinking and doing.
