Her middle-aged granddaughter’s comments 100 years later:
Hmm. . . I’m not sure what this means. Did someone tease Grandma? . . .pull a joke on her?. . .hit her? . . . ????
Maybe someone ‘kissed’ her? or made a pass…..saucy stuff when we speculate, HA
Hmm… my first thought was that a joke was played on her. But perhaps it was a kiss….??? Grandma shouldn’t have been so secretive! Details, we want details!
If you switch the ‘me’ and the ‘on’ it makes me think of the the expression, ‘you’re putting me on,’ or even ‘you’re pulling my leg.’
I think someone played a prank/joke on grandma.
I’m glad she was sure she’d recover from whatever it was!
The phrase “think I’ll soon recover” makes me wonder if she has a cold or something similar. I guess we can only speculate. 🙂
Almost sounds Pennsylvania Dutch, German really. Ah I see Northumberland, PA may have had a Penn-dutch community.
Kind of like ‘Outten the light’ which really according to my mother-in-law means to put out the light.
Maybe she got a cold, and it wasn’t serious? That was my first thought or a rash, like poison ivy.
Those are my guesses. 🙂 I’ve been living in SW PA for about 20 years. But my hubby’s family was close to Allentown. Allentown, all that far on the Google map.
Hmm, I’ll agree with those who think it sounds like she may have caught cold. I wonder if she’ll refer to “it” again in the next entries.
I love yhe house! I sure hope she didnt get hit, but it was common way to punish!
actually that is what I thought that she might have gotten punished. Oh by the way I finally tried hot milk over shredded wheat and like you I think I will stick with my frosted mini wheats – it was ok though but too mushy.

I think it means she was being tricked… “having her leg pulled”, “led up the Garden Path”, etc… but clearly nothing too serious. Maybe just a bit of “wounded pride”…
I love reading your grandmother’s expressions from 100 years ago. Not sure what this one means, but all the ideas above make sense!
