Yes, I also think that it probably refers to the cream that floated to the top of the bottle back in the days before milk was homogenized.
My question — if that malt cereal was so marvelously delicious, how come we don’t have it now???
hmm – I wonder if the malt flavor is less popular now than it once was. I know that malted milk balls are still made, but I almost never see anyone eating them.
I eat malted milk balls! Just found them recently in my usual grocery store.
Just thinking about malted milk balls is making hungry for them. I’m going to have to look for them the next time go to the store.
Interesting how “Mother” looks more like grandmother. I do look at some of the old family photos, and how many of the mid-age women did look much older in my Grandmothers’ generation.

“Mom” in the drawing looks like she has gray hair. Today many women color their hair. I’m good with gray hair, but maybe a reason she looks older than some mothers today is because she has gray hair.

Our mum used to give us a spoonful of malt extract every morning. Clearly it was a thing back in the day. not that i’m a hundred years old 🙂
