Got “that golfing thirst?” A hundred years ago prohibition was in full swing, so Welch’s Grape Juice was clearly the drink to quench it.
Many companies try to fill in that hole during prohibition. Yuengling made ice cream. My grandfather had soda fountains, so it probably helped his business.
It’s fascinating to think about how prohibition was challenging for some companies while it may have benefited others.
And I think it’s still going strong!

There definitely are some similarities.
So if there is a “golfing ” thirst….how about a “shopping thirst? Or a house cleaning thirst? Or a kid chasing thirst? I am sure the “ladies” could use something stronger then a cup to tea…. Maybe a little grape juice that had set and fermented for a bit?
It also struck me that only men were shown in the picture – even though I was looking at a “women’s” magazine. Why weren’t women also shown as having a “golfing thirst”?
Hehe! Just open the bottle and let a little air in and soon you will either have wine or vinegar! I can’t say that any men were lining up for (unfermented) grape juice!
