Her middle-aged granddaughter’s comments 100 years later:
Since Grandma didn’t write anything a hundred years ago today, I thought you might enjoy this advertisement for carving sets. It appeared in Grandma’s local newspaper, the Milton Evening Standard.
Are you prepared for Thanksgiving? You won’t want your guests to think that your turkey was tough just because you don’t have a good carving set. 🙂
I got a kick out of that comment about “tough turkey,” too.
Did a sharp knife that was able to slice the meat into very thin slices somehow make the turkey less tough? 🙂
If so, I need one of those. 😉
Hehe, yes, that “tough turkey” mention made me smile too! I’d love one of these carving sets, they sound just lovely. 🙂 When is Thanksgiving, Sheryl? Australia doesn’t share this wonderful celebration with you, although I have thought for years that we should.
Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday in November in the US–so this year it will be this Thursday, Nov. 27 (and in 1914 it was tomorrow–Nov. 26).
That’s tomorrow in Australia, so it must still be Tuesday over there….I think. Happy Thanksgiving for Thursday, Sheryl. 🙂
And, it’s now Wednesday evening here. I suppose it’s mid-morning on Thursday there. It’s amazing how we can easily communicate across the many miles.
Yes, it is amazing, I’m so happy to have been born into a time when the world is so much closer at hand, without leaving your own home. Happy Thanksgiving, Sheryl. ❤
I’m sure Grandma and her family were busy getting ready for Thanksgiving!
Probably both in 2014 and 1914 people were busily preparing for Thanksgiving.
I think I need a new carving set!
The ad brings to mind Thanksgiving pictures in old magazines of the turkey being ceremoniously carved at the dining room table by the man of the house using a fancy knife and fork. 🙂
they didn’t even have to shop on black Friday just to get a good deal either! 🙂
If you don’t consider inflation, everything was a good deal in 1914. 🙂
true! 🙂
Nobody wants a tough turkey!
LOL Absolutely not. . . if would reflect poorly on the cook. 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Sheryl!!!!!!
I don’t know about what they were offering, but a really sharp carving knife does make all the difference.
Nowadays possessing one of those sets with the ivory handles would be the bigger worry than the tough turkey.
