Hundred-Year-Old Timeline for Canning Fruits and Vegetables

I don’t think that the timeline for canning fruits and vegetables has changed much across the years – though I’m guessing that this timeline is most appropriate for the northern parts of the U.S. since it is from a cookbook compiled in Michigan. The dates probably would be shifted earlier in more southern locales.

    1. How true! The weather varies a lot from year to year, and that really affects when fruit and vegetables ripen (as well as when many of the vegetables were planted).

    1. There have always been variations from year to year. I grew up on a farm, and we worried a lot about the weather (Will it rain? When will it be dry enough to plant the crops? etc.).

  1. Yes, definitely a list for Northern growing regions. In Texas our growing season is earlier, so this would be too late for us. For example, peaches and corn come in harvest in June. I wonder if there are similar lists for different growing areas.
