
I don’t think that the timeline for canning fruits and vegetables has changed much across the years – though I’m guessing that this timeline is most appropriate for the northern parts of the U.S. since it is from a cookbook compiled in Michigan. The dates probably would be shifted earlier in more southern locales.
It seems our seasons change every year, sometimes by a lot!
How true! The weather varies a lot from year to year, and that really affects when fruit and vegetables ripen (as well as when many of the vegetables were planted).
I guess in the past they didn’t have the wild fluctuations in seasons that we are experiencing now!
There have always been variations from year to year. I grew up on a farm, and we worried a lot about the weather (Will it rain? When will it be dry enough to plant the crops? etc.).
Yes, definitely a list for Northern growing regions. In Texas our growing season is earlier, so this would be too late for us. For example, peaches and corn come in harvest in June. I wonder if there are similar lists for different growing areas.
