Since Grandma didn’t write much a hundred years ago today, I’ll share a fun 1914 ad for Postum. Can you still buy this old-fashioned coffee substitute? I haven’t seen it in years. I wonder if it really was better for us than coffee.
I hope not. It sounds truly horrible 😉
I think coffee does sound the more attractive option. With all things, everything in. Moderation is a good maxim.
Margaret made my comment for me — ick!
I remember Postum. It’s still around and I recognize the picture I found on the internet. Don’t think I’d be interested in having it again!!!
I’ve never tried it. But, I would. Another thing used as a coffee substitute is chicory. I see the blue flowers along the roads in late summer.

Yes, I remember Postum. No. I didn’t like it. Yes, I remember how precious coffee was during WWII. Thanks again for the memory.
Also, I was studying the drawing of the woman in the ad, trying to figure out what it was that made it seem old fashioned. Yes, the dress was, but the face and hair looked old fashioned too, and I can’t figure out why. The hair style could be relevant today, and the make-up looked pretty contemporary, and yet … ?
Yuck, yuck, yuck. I’ll take my chances with coffee!
Now coffee is supposed to be good for you! 🙂
Look at this story I found on the panic of Postum no longer in production caused in 2008

How interesting! Thanks, dianasschwenk, for looking it up and sharing.
Hi. I actually still have a bottle of Postum in my cupboard, only about an inch in the bottom. It tasted like burned cereal, not much like coffee. I think it belongs in its own category. I just keep it because it reminds me of the past …. I prefer tea. Jane
I think coffee would be much healthier!
I will stick to tea like Jane! 😉
For those of us with wheat allergies coffee would be much better than Postum!
