I was surprised to see an advertisement in a hundred-year-old magazine for paper baking cups. Until I saw the ad, I never thought about it – but think that I would have guessed that they were a more recent invention.

I’m surprised too! I never saw the stand-alone baking cups until the past few years, so it’s amazing that they made them a hundred years ago. Apparently, they were not a trend setter!
I’m sometimes surprised how many innovative products were already around a hundred years ago.
You know…sometimes 100 years ago seems shorter then others…
I know what you mean. I have similar feelings, though realize that it may mean that I’m not that young.
Can’t go wrong with that Modern Priscilla endorsement
Makes perfect sense to me. 🙂
The first newspaper advertisement for paper baking cups was in 1916. It was not until 1920 that I began to see advertisements for the purchase of the cups for use at home.
It sounds like paper baking cups were relatively new a hundred years ago. I continue to be impressed by your skill at searching through old newspapers.
To be honest, it is not skill. You just put in the search term and a year range, and it is either there, or not! 😁. I thought it was interesting it was there in 1924, so I was just curious if it was sooner.
You’re too modest. I do enough research to know that it can sometimes be challenging to query in ways that get desired results.
True, some are challenging.
You come up with the most amazing things! This was a fun tidbit.
Thank you! It’s nice to hear that you enjoyed this post.
I would have thought so too.
