Her middle-aged granddaughter’s comments 100 years later:
Yesterday, I posted a photo of Grandma’s younger brother, Jim Muffly. I thought that you might enjoy several additional photos of him across his lifetime.
Jim went to college and became a veterinarian.

Jim married twice. His first wife, Miriam died many years ago. He later married his second wife, Ruth.
His veterinary practice was in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, which was about 10 miles from the farm where Grandma grew up. Much of his work involved treating cows and other farm animals. As described in a previous post, Jim invented a magnetic retriever that was used to remove nails and other metal from the stomachs of cows that ingested them.

P.S. It’s again Friday, and I have another Friday Update on my author website, Sheryl Lazarus.com. This week I’m working on designing my forthcoming blog about my great aunt who joined the Women’s Army Corps (WACS)–and I could use your help. I came up with several possible design options, but can’t decide which I like the best. If you have a couple minutes, it would be wonderful if you could take a look at them, and vote on your favorite.
I love number one!!!
It is a nice photo.
Awesome family photos! I absolutely love Mrs. Muffly’s dress, Mr Muffly looks very impressively dressed too!! That is so cool he invented the magnetic retriever to help him and other Doctor’s in their work!! Hapoy Friday! Hugz Lisa and Bear
It is an awesome dress!
What a handsome young man! I love the wedding photo, but couldn’t help but think that his bride’s shoes look so uncomfortable!
I can’t quite figure the shoes out. It looks like she was wearing some sort of spats or leggings.
Seeing the last photo, of him as an older man, makes the whole story and history seems more real to me. I’d like to see a similar range of photos of Helena, over her lifetime.
My thoughts precisely. 🙂
I’m glad you liked the pictures.
Love that dress…and the hat…and the shoes…and even the bouquet!!!
It is a beautiful outfit!
Love these photos of Jim! Does your family have Greek heritage? It just dawned on me that Helena and Jim look like they have Greek features… Although Muffy sounds more British than anything…
Diana xo
I don’t think that there is any Greek in our ancestry. It’s mostly German–though a cousin traced the paternal Muffly line back to Europe and the Muffly who crossed the Atlantic was Swiss.
Aww…the magnetic retriever man! 😉
Yes, that’s the guy. Your story about it was so much fun!
Great photos. I also love that wedding dress.
I’m glad you liked the photos.
Thank you for sharing the photos of Jim. These are lovely pictures.
It’s nice to know that you liked them.
I was right! He was handsome …
He was; and you were right. 🙂
What a beautiful dress the bride wore! And what a handsome couple!
They did make a lovely couple. The dress is amazing.
Great photos – I love the old ones!
It’s nice to hear that you liked them.
Handsome fellow! And, I love, love, love old wedding photos.
I’m glad you liked them.
