Tuesday, February 17, 1914: Miss the mail now. Don’t get it till evening. Makes me so mad that the mail carrier is too lazy to bring it here.
Her middle-aged granddaughter’s comments 100 years later:
Grandma–
Yeah! I’m glad you finally got your mail (even if it didn’t come until evening).
On Saturday, February 14 and yesterday you wrote that you were expecting a valentine, but didn’t get mail because of a snowstorm.
DID YOU GET A VALENTINE? Please don’t leave us hanging!

For goodness sakes I cant stand the suspense! I’ve been waiting for that Valentine mail for days. 🙂
I hope there’s something special in the mail for Grandma!
I’m confused by what she wrote–has she gotten the mail or is she still waiting for evening and the delivery? I hope to heaven she tells us about the Valentine!!
I’m not sure exactly what she meant. I took it that she received the mail, but that it came very late. It also crossed my mind that maybe the mail carrier didn’t come, so late in the day someone from the family may have gone into town to the post office to get it.
*waiting … tapping fingers* 😀
I love that she called the mail carrier out for being lazy! Funny.
A little grumpy about not receiving her mail…hope it was worth the wait.
Hope Grandma got the mail she was hoping for… and it simply had to be a valentine!
It seems as though she is expecting mail!
I remember waiting for the mail. Back before email and fb and blogging took over.
It sounds like what is happening to me. The mail never arrived Sat and now here we are 6 pm and still no mail. At least Helena had bad weather – not sure what is going on but the post office will be getting a call tomorrow that is for sure.
