Her middle-aged granddaughter’s comments 100 years later:

Cut flowers are always a nice touch when there’s company.

Gladiolas are in season– maybe Grandma cut a few and put them in a vase . . .

  1. Glad are one of my favorites! Wish Grandma had shared with us who came to visit…

  2. Helena is in a “nothing doing” rut and I know how that feels, but I’m wishing for her to have an epiphany. You only see joy if you’re looking for it, Helena. How could company be nothing doing. Who was it? Family, friends? My guess is that she’s looking so hard for something she wants that she’s missing what’s around her.

  3. I love the perfume of flowers in a room as well!

  4. Flowers are certainly an easy way to brighten the room.

  5. Helena is not making it easy on her granddaughter! I like the way you make something out of nothing!

  6. I can feel for Helena – nothing here either. My journal would be reading, went to work, came home…. ;)

  7. Hi. I used to think that cutting flowers and bringing them into the house was the ultimate indicator of wealth. Now I realise it is a simple pleasure even I can enjoy! Jane

  8. Sometimes I wish she’d elaborate more…
