A Boring Sunday Afternoon

17-year-old Helena Muffly wrote exactly 100 years ago today:

Sunday, October 13, 1912: Went to Sunday School this morning. Had to amuse myself this afternoon because no one came to see me and most of the family had gone away.

Her middle-aged granddaughter’s comments 100 years later:

What might Grandma have done to amuse herself on a boring Sunday afternoon?

Read a book?

Bake cookies?

Go for a walk?

Do a little sewing?

Do a little embroidery?

Do her homework?  . .. . nah

  1. I like to think of her walking along a path similar to your picture. Pondering over her future, who her husband will be, etc…I am sure homework would not be something Helena would do to amuse herself! 😉 If she was like me she would get it to tonight at the last minute. ha ha

  2. Well she had her visit…100 yrs later today. We visited Helena in her resting place which I was surprised to find next to the school. We drove around to places she might have walked along a winding path on a brisk cool autumn afternoon. I will send some pictures.
