17-year-old Helena Muffly wrote exactly 100 years ago today:
Monday, August 5, 1912:Didn’t go very much today. Miss Tweet was down, but not to see me.
Her middle-aged granddaughter’s comments 100 years later:
Tweet was the nickname of Helen Wesner, a friend of Grandma and her sister Ruth.
It sounds like Tweet came to see Ruth, but not Grandma. Do a sense a bit of jealousy?
I did a previous post on Tweet that you might enjoy:
It does look like the formal “Miss Tweet” indicated a bit of pique!
I like your post today. I remember times growing up when cousins would visit. They usually wanted to spend time with my siblings instead of me. At least it gave me more time to read :-).
It is not easy when you are not included.
Sorry for her seeming disappointment — tomorrow is better, I hope!
O, I love the sound of that name — Miss Tweet— all sorts of stories could be written about Miss Tweet.
